The quiet outskirts of Oklahoma City

Northwest of the scenic Lake Hefner, Cobblestone is a modern suburb developed in the quiet outskirts of Oklahoma City. The highly-coveted neighborhood comprises four titular gated communities— Cobblestone Park, Cobblestone Manor, Cobblestone Curve, and Chateaux at Cobblestone— as well as three separate, outlying gated communities. “There’s something special about the northwest side of town,” says Kathy Parker, a 25-year resident and local Realtor with eXp Realty. The convenience of their locations, alongside highly rated schools and unique amenities, make each subdivision amiable in its own way.

Cobblestone’s modern gated communities

Cobblestone Park was the first of the area’s four titular communities, initially developed in the early 90s. Various architectural styles line its residential avenues, including Brick Tudor Revivals with gabled roofs and Craftsman homes with farmhouse façades. These styles echo throughout Cobblestone’s newer subdivisions, juxtaposing the occasional contemporary or luxury build. “There’s something here for everyone— and every budget,” Adams continues. Cobblestone Manor and Chateaux at Cobblestone range in price between $250,000 and $750,000, with most homes hovering around the $450,000 mark. Meanwhile, The Grand boasts lakeside homes reaching beyond $1 million. Just south, Ponderosa’s communities are some of the area’s newest, with homes mirroring the styles of neighboring Cobblestone.

Two quality school districts

Cobblestone’s students are divided between two highly sought-after districts: Putnam City and Deer Creek. “Both are great,” Adams explains. “But the boundary lines in this part of the city are all over the place, so you’ll want to double-check which zone you’re in before September.” Will Rogers Elementary is where Putnam City students begin their academic careers, receiving a C-plus on Niche. Hefner Middle is the state’s most diverse public middle school with a B-minus on Niche, while B-rated Putnam City North High School is among the state’s highest-scoring public schools overall. The Deer Creek Public School District earns an A on Niche, with Deer Creek High School earning an A-minus for high-quality teachers and college prep.

A triangle of thoroughfares

Three nearby thoroughfares—John Kilpatrick Turnpike, Northwest Expressway and Hefner Parkway—form a triangle surrounding Lake Hefner’s northeast suburbs. While Northwest Expressway offers a direct route south to Interstate 44 and the heart of OKC, John Kilpatrick Turnpike leads 25 miles south to Will Rogers World Airport. Hefner Parkway runs parallel to the lake, allowing access to the area’s popular parks and restaurants. Additionally, the city’s best healthcare options, Mercy Hospital and Integris Medical Complex, are within a mile of most homes.

Suburban shopping malls and lakeside eateries

19 miles from Downtown OKC, Cobblestone’s residents remain close to various shopping and dining destinations populating the northeast suburbs. “You’re sandwiched between the two malls we have here,” Parker says, referring to Quail Springs and Penn Square. “And there’s Lake Hefner nearby with all kinds of restaurants.” Both shopping malls offer more than 100 retail outlets surrounded by daily provisions and entertainment options, like the Target, AMC Theater and Blue Zoo Aquarium at Quail Springs. Parker recommends the pork tamales at Mama Roja, one of Lake Hefner’s well-loved restaurants. Though the sea bass Florentine at Hefner Grill is another go-to. Both eateries are just minutes down the turnpike and off of Hefner Parkway on the lake's eastern shore.

Waterfront sunsets on Lake Hefner

Many of Cobblestone’s subdivisions offer a variety of exclusive rec facilities, like fishing ponds, community pools and playgrounds. But residents looking for outdoor recreation outside the gates can head to Lake Hefner to enjoy all kinds of activities on the water and on land. Just 5 miles down the road, the lakefront provides more than 9 miles of paved trails circling the shore, expansive ball fields and opportunities for boating and fishing. “You can head out there on a Saturday afternoon just to watch the sailboats. It’s beautiful,” Parker says. Thanks to the unbeatable waterfront sunsets, “you almost feel like you’re in a beach town,” she concludes. “It doesn’t feel like you’re in Oklahoma.”

The River Festival at Stars and Stripes Park

Nearby Lake Hefner’s calendar of events includes 5k fundraisers, ball tournaments and Independence Day block parties. But the annual River Festival at Stars and Stripes Park is always something to look forward to for locals. Revolving around rowing, paddling and dragon boat racing, the festival includes lawn games for kiddos, local vendors and a lively fireworks show held over two weekends in the summer.
