Quiet streets and community parks 30 miles from Chicago
Living in Winston Park means waving hello to neighbors on the street or packing a lunch to eat at one of the many community parks, many of which are named after local trees. At the end of the summer, community members gather to listen to live music or chat in the beer tent at the Palatine Street Fest, and there’s usually an Irish jig to clap along to at Durty Nellie’s; it’s the type of place where people know one another by name. “You’ll see familiar faces when you’re out for walks or at the park,” says Cindy Eich, a Palatine-based real estate agent with Baird & Warner who has been selling homes in the neighborhood for over 35 years. “There’s a wonderful sense of community in the Winston Park area,” she adds. This Palatine subdivision is entirely residential, and many ranch-style and split-level homes were built to accommodate growing families in the decades following World War II. However, locals are a short drive — or even a walk — from shopping and Metra access Downtown. There’s also Chicago, which is a 30-mile commute along Interstate 90.

Single-family homes dating back to the 1960s and ‘70s
There are just over 2,000 homes in the neighborhood, most of which date back to the 1960s and ‘70s and range from the mid $300,000s to the high $500,000s in price. A three-bedroom ranch-style home with an attached two-car garage might sell for approximately $330,000, whereas a remodeled traditional home close to 3,000 square feet might be listed near $600,000. Along with square footage, price tags in Winston Park also correlate with lake access. Colonial revivals bordering Lake Louise, for instance, will sell for around $500,000, and driveways offer enough room for basketball hoops and several cars. Prospective buyers can also find condo options near Highway 53, and two-bedroom units are listed under $200,000. Homes in Winston Park tend to be snapped up quickly, selling after an average of 9 days, approximately a month faster than the national estimates.

Explore the Park District on the Palatine Trail
There are several parks located throughout the neighborhood, many of which share names with local trees. Oak Park, for example, spans nearly 7 acres and includes a baseball field where neighborhood teams can practice, a basketball court for pick-up games on the weekends and a playground. There’s also a sand volleyball court. In Maple Park, residents will find a recently renovated playground and a soccer field. The Palatine Trail, which extends close to 10 paved miles throughout the Palatine Park District, passes through Maple Park along with the Twin Lakes Golf & Recreation Area to the south. Bikers, hikers and cross-country skiers populate the pathways, and some use the trail to access Deer Grove Forest Preserve (nearly 2,000 acres of protected wetland, prairie and upland forest).
