Tucked into Pittsburgh’s West End, Sheraden is a walkable urban neighborhood with a lot of history along its streets. This community owes its name to William Sheraden, a settler who gave up his land to make way for a railway depot. His original Italianate home remains as a beautifully kept historical landmark on Bergman Street. An original page of Harriet Beecher Stowe’s infamous novel, “Uncle Tom’s Cabin,” has a home in Sheraden, hidden away in the community’s Karples Manuscript Library. Sheraden’s past, present and potential culminate into the convenient and unique area it is today, home to several local businesses and parks.

American Foursquares and Victorian Revivals
Sheraden’s residential streets sprawl the lush hills of the West End, lined by sidewalks and dense housing. Renters and homeowners live side-by-side in this old-school Pittsburgh neighborhood, inhabiting homes that date back as far as the late 1800s. 1917 is the median year built in Sheraden, so while midcentury ranch-style homes and bungalows can be found around the neighborhood, narrower, multi-floor residences are more popular, including iconic early-century Victorian Revivals and American Foursquares. Some of Sheraden’s townhouses also display the woodwork trim and steep gabled roofs of the Victorian Revival style. List prices in Sheraden range from $18,000 to $220,000. Homes less than $100,000 are typically older homes with good bones in need of some TLC, while properties closer to $200,000 are already renovated.
The American foursquare style home is scattered throughout the Sheraden neighborhood.

Sheraden Park
For outdoor recreation, Sheraden residents have options. Families can spend a day at Sheraden Park, where they can eat lunch at the picnic benches under the pavilion. Parents can watch their kids run around on the playground adjacent or push them on the swing set. The park also has a basketball court for neighborhood pick-up games. At McGonigle Park, children practice their best swings during little league on the baseball field, and future NBA players shoot some hoops on the basketball court. Meanwhile, skaters unite at Sheraden Skate Park, where people can build their skills on the pipes and ramps on rough asphalt pavement.
Sheraden Park was established on January 24, 1914.

Sheraden can be an exceptional value depending on where you buy. From a real estate investor perspective most of Sheraden is a solid B neighborhood. There are some C grade streets mostly scattered in the east end. There are a couple A grade properties around Middletown Rd on the west. There are a few local businesses however they're overshadowed by a 5-10 minute drive downtown or to Robinson with many more options. There's nice city access with the west busway although the park and ride lot fills and could be expanded

It's not a bad area to live. It's sometimes the new people who move in that change how the community is.
