Farmland and open space in LaGrange
New York's Middle Hudson Valley is known for its scenic views and busy river towns. LaGrange, 5 miles from downtown Poughkeepsie, is abundant in farmland yet less than 10 miles from Poughkeepsie’s train station and local eateries. While many residents commute to work in Westchester County, 47 miles away, or New York CIty, 76 miles away, others may work in Poughkeepsie at Marist University or the Nuvance Health Vassar Brothers Medical Center. “They want to live somewhere more rural than Poughkeepsie,” says Ann Stettner Charles, an associate broker at Neil Charles Real Estate who has worked in the industry for over 35 years. “LaGrange is the perfect spot because it’s very accessible.” LaGrange offers large homes on expansive lots near public transportation, shopping, dining and recreation without the hustle and bustle of city living.
Commuters use the Taconic State Parkway and Poughkeepsie train station
Those heading into Westchester County take the Taconic State Parkway, reaching their destination in an hour or less. Continuing south, commuters can reach New York City in just under two hours. The Hudson Line at the Poughkeepsie train station, 7 miles away, offers service to Grand Central Terminal in two hours. Merging from the Taconic onto Interstate 84 leads to the New York Stewart International Airport, 37 miles away. Bus stops line state Route 55 for those wanting to travel within the Poughkeepsie area. The Nuvance Health Vassar Brothers Medical Center is 7 miles away in Poughkeepsie. Churches, synagogues and masjids are found near Arlington and Poughkeepsie. Some churches also line Route 55, which passes through LaGrange.
Townhouses close to Poughkeepsie and single-family homes on acre lots
LaGrange is a patchwork of farmland with suburban-style homes on winding roadways. Colonial Revival, New Traditional and split-level style homes are common in the area and sit on acre lots. “There’s more demand than there is supply,” says Stettner. “So properties tend to keep their value as long as a house is nice. Depends on the features, how many acres and the condition.” Recently built or upgraded homes go for $500,000 to $975,000, while older homes with little to no updates range from $275,000 to $475,000. Condos and townhouses are closer to Poughkeepsie and along Route 55, and range from $225,000 to $375,000. The area's CAP Index crime score is a 1 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.
Demand is strong in LaGrange where well kept homes retain value thanks to space, privacy, and location.
Townhomes in LaGrange near Route 55 offer low maintenance living and quick access to shopping and commuting routes.
