While Redford has convenient connections to familiar larger cities, it holds its own shine with many endearing qualities of a small town. This charter township’s 11.25 square miles include fun community events, well-maintained parks and cozy restaurants. Here, residents can enjoy the fruits of suburban-esque living without the stress of urban chaos.
Events in the township
There are three signature events that Redford residents can look forward to attending every year. The Township Festival in June includes carnival rides and an annual competition between the township’s employees and the Chamber of Commerce. In September, Oktoberfest pays homage to the area’s German heritage with its food, music and German-sausage-throwing contest. The township celebrates Christmas with Olde Fashioned Holidays in early December, holding festivities like a tree lighting ceremony, photo ops with Santa Claus and even a petting zoo. Movie in the Cemetery nights allow residents to experience movies in a spooky setting. Heritage Day at the Museum celebrates Redford’s local history with food, entertainment and old-fashioned arts and crafts. They can also go bowling at Mayflower Lanes or visit the Redford Township District Library to check out materials and attend special events. For residents of faith, there are over 30 houses of worship available in and nearby Redford, including Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, New Found Hope Community Church and Sri Shirdi Saibaba Temple.
Playgrounds, sports fields and driving ranges
The township includes 12 parks, each one a great place for residents to play, exercise or relax outdoors. Handy Park is especially friendly to little ones, with its playground and a “handy” splash pad for warmer days. For those who enjoy playing or spectating outdoor sports, Bell Creek County Park includes soccer fields and baseball diamonds. There is also Glenhurst Golf Course, an 18-hole public course.
Dining and shopping in Redford
Many of the dining establishments in Redford have their own unique qualities. For example, Murphy’s Restaurant has been in business for over forty years and serves authentic Irish fare to the community. When kitchen items are running low, residents can head over to Value Center Marketplace, ALDI and Joe Randazzo’s Fruit & Vegetable Inc. There are also several boutiques and small businesses great for leisurely shopping trips.
Beautiful homes and front yards
Many of the township’s residential areas have their own neighborhood associations, showing an individual pride and personality with each one. Western View has many brick ranch-style homes with multi-car garages and neatly landscaped front yards. Grand Dale has many Colonial-styles and bungalows. The Chesterfield neighborhood contains many sleek, contemporary homes arranged neatly in compact rows. Homes in the area can cost anywhere between $69,000 and $300,000. The housing market has remained steady throughout the last several years, making gradual increases. At the beginning of 2023, the average housing value was recorded at $147, 865 and the market finished the year at $153,267. The median listing price is $155,000. Many Redford residents also take pride in the exteriors of their homes, with encouragement from the township’s Beautification Commission. The community organizes Garden Walk events, holds perennial exchanges biannually to encourage plant diversity and grants Best Yard awards to the most beautiful landscaping efforts.
Plenty of schooling options
Students in the area are served by three school districts: Redford Union School District (RUSD), South Redford School District (SRSD) and Clarenceville School District (CSD). RUSD was given a C-plus rating from Niche, SRSD a D-plus and CSD a B-minus. For residents who would like to pursue higher education, the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor is about 28 miles from the township, while Wayne County Community College is 18 miles away.
Transportation and commuting
Drivers here have several roads at their convenience. Interstate-96 cuts directly through the township, running east to west. Michigan State Road – also known as Telegraph Road – runs along the eastern edge of the area. The U.S. Census Bureau reports the average commute time in the area is about 25.3 minutes. The township is roughly 16 miles from Detroit, 28 miles from Ann Arbor and 75 miles from Lansing, the state capital. Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport is about 35 miles away.
Environmental factors and crime
There are a few environmental factors that residents should keep in mind. Data from Risk Factor shows Redford is at moderate risk for poor air quality and severe heat. Meanwhile, the crime rate in Redford has been on a slight decline. Statistics from the FBI reveal that the Redford Township Police Department (RTPD) accounted for 283 violent crimes and 310 offenses in 2021. The next year, there were 218 violent crimes and 250 offenses reported. The RTPD has worked to combat crime by taking measures such as keeping a Neighborhood Watch Program for over forty years and a partnership with the home security app Ring.

My journey toward being one of the leading realtors in Metro Detroit wasn’t easy – but it was worth it. It all began as a 20-year-old college student, thrust into life as a single mom. Away from my family, deep into my studies, and focused on being the best parent possible, I began noticing my potential. Motherhood, and all its challenges, brought out the best in me. It lit a fire inside of me, unleashed my entrepreneurial spirit, and pushed me to seek opportunities that allowed me to grow into the type of person I wanted my daughter to look up to. From there, I looked to God to pull me toward whatever path I was supposed to be on. That happened to be real estate. Captivated by the tv show "Million Dollar Listing," I instinctively recognized real estate as the ideal profession. Its flexibility enables me to prioritize my children while thriving in a lucrative career. It also combined all of my strengths: My insatiable work ethic, my friendly nature, an innate ability to negotiate and problem-solve, my love of making a difference, and my ability to build connections with people from all different backgrounds. And from there, Gentraia Brown Metro Detroit Realtor was born.
I'm a graduate of Michigan State University, where I received my BA in Hospitality Business. I'm devoted to serving the needs and exceeding the expectations of real estate buyers, sellers and investors throughout the Metro Detroit area.
I’M ALSO IN GOOD COMPANY! I only join forces with the type of people who do BIG things and operate at a high-level. From my transaction coordinator and assistants to the entire RE/MAX team, if I can’t answer your question, I’m a call away from somebody who can.
I’M VERY TRANSPARENT. I promise to always be honest with you – even if it’s difficult to hear. By keeping things authentic, you’ll know that you can trust my opinion, take my words at face value, and ask me the difficult questions, without worrying that I’ll shy away from them.
