Mosby provides easy access to downtown Richmond. “Mosby is really centrally located,” says Ray Rivera, Realtor with EXP Realty LLC. “You’re so close to the heart of the city, within walking distance from really great spots.” 6 minutes from downtown Richmond, the mainly residential area near the East End contains small single-family homes perched on modest lots with shallow, fenced front lawns. Many of these homes were built in the mid-1900s and remain in original condition, but increasingly, houses are receiving complete renovations and modern updates. Groceries and other necessities can be found at local convenience stores or residents can visit the downtown area for shopping and dining needs. Local institutions support the Mosby community by offering discounted groceries and mentoring high school students.
American vernacular housing styles
Homes in the area display simple American vernacular styles. Single-story homes are in the bungalow, contemporary Cape Cod and minimal traditional styles. Two-story homes are in the foursquare Colonial Revival style. Mosby Court, one of the City of Richmond’s public housing projects, contains brick Colonial Revival row houses facing inward towards a shared yard. Properties in Mosby range in price from around $135,000 for a three-bedroom minimal traditional home without updates to $220,000 for a three-bedroom bungalow with modern updates. “Pricewise, it’s hard to beat. It is really affordable,” says Rivera.
I-65 and public transportation
Fairfield Way borders Mosby, and I-65 surrounds the area. Oliver Hill Way and North 18th Street provide quick access to downtown Richmond. Public transportation is accessible via bus stops near Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School. Most convenience stores, parks and schools are within walking distance.
Armstrong High School partners with Richmond Hill
Children in the area attend Woodville Elementary School, receiving a C-minus on Niche. Students continue to Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, receiving a D-plus. Armstrong High School, receiving a C-minus, offers students the opportunity to participate in the Armstrong Leadership Program in partnership with the non-profit Richmond Hill. The program sponsors roughly 50 students annually and prepares them for success during and after high school by providing mentorship and opportunities for personal development, service and leadership.
The Market at 25th and Davinci’s
The Market at 25th provides half-off fruits and vegetables to those in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and food delivery services. This local, community-driven grocery store aims to bring affordable, high-quality food to the area. Nearby, Family Dollar has toys, school supplies, groceries and other necessities. Locals visit the neighborhood corner store, K&K Food Mart, for quick snacks and beverages. Residents stop by Rise Café for all-day breakfast options such as waffles, French toast, beef brisket hash, and other plates. Locals can order dinner at Davinci’s, a pizza place that serves wings, fries, and Philly cheesesteak subs.
Lucks Field and Fairmont Pool
Mosby residents can play ball at Parker Field, a baseball field adjacent to Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School. At Lucks Field, children amuse themselves on the playground or start a game at the baseball field nearby. Beside the basketball court, locals can work out at the outdoor gym. Across the street is Fairmont Pool, a public pool with a splash area and space to recline in the summer sun.
Shalom Farms and Richmond Public Library
Shalom Farms sells freshly farmed fruits and vegetables at mobile farmers' markets in the Northside, South Side and East End neighborhoods. The East End branch of the Richmond Public Library offers activities and events for residents of all ages, from video game and true crime book clubs to storytime for preschoolers.
