A growing suburb
Hampton Park is a Romeoville suburb half a mile west of the Des Plaines River. Settled by French missionaries and explorers in the late 17th century, Romeoville was once home to hundreds of acres of farmland. Hampton Park was developed between 1957 and 1970. It's now home to over 12,000 Romeoville residents and growing. This 4-square-mile neighborhood was designed on a wavy grid of intersecting streets near the mellow village center, close to public schools and Metra and bordered by a nature preserve and a cemetery.
On the western banks of the Des Plaines River is the suburb of Hampton Park.

The best price point around
Chicago's western suburbs have become very popular since the Covid-19 pandemic. As the real estate market in more famous villages nearby, like Naperville, has saturated, villages like Romeoville have become more popular. Stacey Pruett, a Realtor with Fathom Realty and eight years of local experience, says, "Those that live there already aren't moving anytime soon." Compared to Naperville and Aurora, Romeoville, especially Hampton Park, has an excellent price point. Modest bungalows, ranch-style homes and split-levels line the wide, open streets shaded by mature pines and oaks under the big, midwestern sky. The average listing price in Hampton Park is around $240,000, with some unassuming, three-bedroom fixer-uppers being listed for $170,000 or less. Houses sit close together on small lots featuring attached, front-facing garages. Remodeled homes are listed for closer to $400,000.

O'Hara Woods or Village Park
The 55-acre O'Hara Woods Nature Preserve borders the western edge of Hampton Park. Its one-mile path is shaded by the preserve's lush greenery and filled with bird sounds. Village Park connects to O'Hara Woods. Where O'Hara Woods is wild, Village Park is cultivated for outdoor and indoor sports and recreation with fields, courts, and a recreation center. Warm summer weather brings people to Heritage Falls Water Park, run by Lockport Township on the southern edge of Hampton Park and open to the public for swimming and splashing. A large cemetery adds to the neighborhood's green space. Conservation Park surrounds Lake Strini, allows fishing, and has a trail around the lake. The paved trail connects to a north-south greenway that runs the length of the neighborhood, connecting to trails in Pacific Park and Volunteer Park, sit of the Romeoville Skate Park, to the south.

Unsightly power lines and a small airport
However, the greenway's purpose is to provide space for two large rows of power lines running above it through Hampton Park. Home buyers will want to take note of this in their home-buying search, as prices tend to be lower in homes bordering the greenway. The National Institutes of Health found a statistically significant association between exposure to electromagnetic wires and cancer. The small Lewis University Airport is south of Hampton Park, but aviation activity is minimal and primarily educational, so noise isn't a problem for most residents.

Once home to acres of farmland, Hampton Park quickly developed into a beautiful suburb.

A new brewery and an old farm
New establishments like Iron & Glass Taproom & Bottleshop are commensurate with current growth trends in Romeoville, but, as Jacqueline Dix, a Compass Realtor with 19 years of local experience, says, "If people are looking for bells and whistles, they're going to Naperville." White Fence Farm is an exception. Claiming to have been serving the "World's Greatest Chicken" since the 1920s, Chicagoans seem to agree. The farm has a petting zoo and regular musical guests. Café Romeo is a local brunch joint on Independence Boulevard that's also popular with locals. Aldi, Walmart and Jewel-Osco are close for groceries.
