Community centered around Midland Hills Country Club
Back in 1919, University of Minnesota created a golf course exclusive to professors and administrative staff at the campus not far away. A few years later, the university built another course across the street to accommodate a broader clientele and eventually named it Midland Hills Country Club. "The reason this club was founded was because they wanted to have a club that was comprised of local business owners – not just university faculty,” says Mike Manthey, the country club’s grounds superintendent for more than 10 years. The area’s scenic rolling hills played a factor in choosing the location, and those same contours extend to the surrounding residential community, which began to develop in the 1950s. “There are several members who live in the neighborhood,” says Manthey, “But what’s cool is we have people from all over Minneapolis and Saint Paul who come to play here.” Manthey adds that this isn’t a typical country club community because there aren’t many houses directly on the course. And while the neighborhood is convenient for avid golfers, it’s also convenient in general, as it’s right along Interstate 35W with Minneapolis directly to the west and Roseville’s shopping centers a few miles east.
Rosedale Center and the surrounding area offer big box stores and shopping opportunities.
The Midland Hills Country Club has operated in the Roseville's Midland Hills neighborhood since the 1920s.

Two golf courses for private and public golfing
Midland Hills Country Club's 18-hole course is for members only, and its design is reminiscent of some of the sport's iconic locations. “Architects who grew up in Scotland came to America and took all of what they knew from the best holes in Europe and duplicated them here,'' Manthey says. "We have holes that mimic ones in France, northern Scotland and a couple from England.” The club opens to the public for several fundraisers throughout the year. “They are always sold out,” says Manthey. “It’s super fun to have people experience the golf course who don’t normally play here.” Across Larpenteur Avenue, the University of Minnesota, Lee Bolstad Course has evolved over the years from its original nine-hole layout for faculty and staff into the 18-hole home of the Gophers' golf team. Open to the public for a daily fee, the course is named for a longtime university golf coach. Despite 36 holes in a small area, the neighborhood isn't all about golf. Lauderdale Community Park's basketball, tennis and roller hockey facilities are right next to the university's golf course. There’s also a fenced-in dog park, playground and an archery range. Roseville’s newest green space, Sunset Park, is being built near homes on the west side of the neighborhood. The nearly 1-acre park is expected to be completed by 2025 and will have playground equipment, nature trails, basketball courts and an area for picnics.

Suburban homes with lots of trees
Midland Hills is predominantly made up of single-family homes built between the 1950s and early 2000s. Ranch-style, split-level and New Traditional houses are the most common. They’re built on quarter- to-half-acre lots with mature trees. While most houses are on calm suburban streets, some have front yards that face the Interstate 35W wall. However, they typically have long driveways and are tucked away behind trees that obstruct the view. "It's close to the freeway, but it's still a nice, quiet neighborhood off the beaten path," says Lisa Proechel, a local real estate agent with Keller Williams Integrity Realty. "You don't get a whole lot of traffic going through the neighborhood because it's all residential." Some backyards are adjacent to the golf course, but the tall trees block not only the views of the fairways but also the balls that may come flying from bad swings. Homes ranging from 1,200 to 2,500 square feet sell for around $350,000 to $500,000. Larger 3,000- to 5,000-square-foot homes go for $550,000 to $1.5 million. While attached homes aren’t common, there are a few dozen duplexes on Midland View Court North. They feature three-car garages, four bedrooms and around 3,500 to 3,800 square feet of living space, selling between $650,000 and $700,000.
