Comfortable, small-town living in New York
Rotterdam is a place where residents can put down roots, just 16 miles north of Albany. Even though it's one of the largest municipalities of Schenectady County, Rotterdam still has a small-town sensibility. Heidi Rotter, a Real Estate Broker and Owner of Brass Tacs Real Estate Company was born and raised in Rotterdam and says she's raising children here. For her, it's deeper than business. "It's comfort. It's comfortable. My neighbors are great. It's a small town, so it's good to know as many people as possible so you can grow as a community,” Rotter says. Commuters have convenient access to major employers in Albany like the University of Albany and Albany Memorial Hospital. Another large employer that’s more central to the area is the Rivers Casino and Resort.
Rotterdam is a perfect match of country and suburbs close to Albany.
Rotterdam offers a variety of home style for residents to choose from.

Bungalows with staired porches
Home prices start in the S100,000 to $280,000 range, according to Rotter. These smaller homes are typically Cape Cod and bungalow styles with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. There's also a market for larger builds, such as new ranch-style and traditional homes that fall between $300,000 and $600,000.
No matter the price, houses have modest porches and wooded backyards.
