A convenient oasis built on community
In Arden Oaks, the towering trees aren't the only thing to stand the test of time. History lives on through homes and community festivals in this tree-topped Sacramento neighborhood that offers comfort and accessibility. "You've got everything you need within walking distance," says Realtor Wendy Milligan. "You get large, executive-style homes on acre lots and a rural setting, but you're still in the city." Properties boast landscaped exteriors and curving driveways. Flowering shrubs often line a home's fenced lawn, adding a pop of white blossoms in the spring as the leaves fill. Arden Oaks residents are most fond of their neighborhood's seclusion, often called a convenient oasis. Shopping centers are nearby, but any semblance of road noise disappears and is replaced by a symphony of native birds chirping.

Events through the neighborhood association
Arden Oaks Neighborhood Association is very involved in the community. There are optional membership dues that contribute to a neighborhood security watch and annual events held by the association. As summer approaches, the community prepares for the yearly Arden Oaks Fourth of July Parade, a neighborhood tradition since the 1960s. Residents can be seen donning red, white and blue costumes and driving antique cars decked out with shining streamers as they head to Windemere Park for sack races, pie-eating contests and live music. The annual BBQ is in September of every year, and in the winter, residents can compete in the 'Holiday Lighting and Decoration Contest.' The association has a newsletter that details neighborhood updates, reminders and upcoming events.

More land and square footage than surrounding neighborhoods
With street names such as Random Lane, it's no surprise that the layout takes some unexpected turns. But these curving roads are part of the area's charm, and home styles are equally unpredictable. Arden Oaks has larger plots than the surrounding neighborhoods, offering more yard space and square footage. Ranches of every style are set back from streets by iron-gated entries with stone accents, and many display Mediterranean-inspired architecture and accents. Prices have skyrocketed in recent years, ranging between $700,000 and $3 million, with a median price of $840,000. "These are million-dollar-plus homes," Milligan says. "They can take longer to sell because the price point is higher." Still, with low inventory, multiple offers are not uncommon.
Lot and house sizes in Arden Oaks are larger than most neighborhoods in Sacramento.

Pools and tennis courts aplenty
Mature trees provide shade, and some residents have taken advantage of this by adding a tennis court or pool to their backyard. Cottage Park is the place to head for those who would instead utilize a public pool or meet up with opponents at the nearby courts. A large field, many basketball courts, and a playground with a swing set accompany the courts and pool. Windemere Park is in the neighborhood and a short walk for many residents. Kids can enjoy the climbing wall on the playground or shoot hoops at the basketball court. The park sits beside a row of homes, so parents don't have to worry about children playing near busy streets.
