About Saginaw, TX

About Saginaw, TX

Small-town living outside of Fort Worth

About 8 miles outside of historic Fort Worth is Saginaw, a quaint city that offers residents the feel of an even smaller suburb. “There's a small-town feel within the city. You have shops, entertainment, dining, and anything you could possibly need,” says Cindy Salinas, a Realtor with Texas Connect Realty specializing in the Fort Worth region. “It’s also close to the major highways to Fort Worth, Arlington or Dallas.” Locals can hop on the main drag, Saginaw Boulevard, when they’re itching for a meal or running an errand. This road turns into U.S. Route 287, which quickly connects to commuter-friendly Interstates 35 West and 820. And if convenient trips around the Metroplex aren't enough, Salinas adds that the highly rated local school district increases the appeal of a home in Saginaw.

Established ranch homes and New Traditional homes

Saginaw’s wide range of housing styles spans across the decades, with homes from the late 1950s to yesterday’s newest build. Established, three-bedroom ranch-style homes, many with brick exteriors and a driveway, typically cost between $200,000 and $300,000. Subdivisions surrounded by wooden gates feature newer Traditional-style homes, many recently built or remodeled. These 2,000- to 3,000-square-foot properties often sport multicar garages and covered back patios within fenced-in yards, ranging in price from $300,000 to $450,000. Mature pecan and oak trees line the sidewalks that weave throughout Saginaw’s residential streets, shading the way for post-work strolls.

Commuting on I-820 and I-35W

Saginaw Boulevard cuts diagonally through town, turning into U.S. Route 287 when it reaches Interstate 820. Once on the interstate, commuters are about 8 miles from Fort Worth, 22 miles from Arlington and 35 miles from Dallas. No public bus system services the immediate town, so residents are car-dependent. And while there is no passenger train, a cargo train does rumble through on its parallel path alongside Saginaw Boulevard.

BBQ and Tex-Mex on Saginaw Boulevard

While there are a few chain restaurants and fast-food eateries on the peripherals of town, the boulevard is home to a few mom-and-pop restaurants. “Texas Pit BBQ and El Sombrero are two of the most popular, both locally owned,” Salinas says. Brisket lovers can dine in or use the drive-thru at Texas Pit BBQ, and El Sombrero serves the Tex-Mex classics. Further north up the boulevard, patrons might stop in to watch the game or play a game of pool at Eagle’s Point Bar & Grill. This local spot offers burgers, wings and all fried things to go along with its full bar. While on this side of town, residents can also grab groceries at Aldi, Albertson or Walmart.

Fresh air and markets at Willow Creek Park

Families can take advantage of the playgrounds in a few small neighborhood parks throughout Saginaw, but the most popular is Willow Creek Park. Athletes can practice on the open fields of green space and outdoor courts while walkers enjoy the 2.5-mile paved path around the park. There’s also a dog park for furry friends, and the Saginaw Farmers Market features small businesses at the south end of the park on Saturdays. Nearby, the Saginaw Recreation Center hosts indoor sports leagues and line-dancing classes, and the outdoor pool features a winding waterslide. “Residents also spend the summer by the water at Eagle Mountain Lake,” Salinas adds. About 9 miles west, Twin Points Park is a sandy beach area with swimming access to the lake.
