Hike or cross-country ski at Lakelands Trail State Park
Spend some time outdoors at one of the parks or preserves in the area, including Veteran’s Memorial Park. The park offers a playground with bright yellow slides for kids to enjoy, some ramps for skateboarders to practice their tricks, a basketball court, sports fields and picnic pavilions for gatherings or to stay out of the sun. “The park and trails are very busy and well used in the summer,” Pidd says. Locals head to Lakelands Trail State Park for the walking trail and horseback riding. The trail used to be a railroad track; now, it is a no-vehicles-allowed trail. Speaking of trails, the Beckwith Nature Preserve allows locals and visitors to surround themselves with nature with clearly marked trails and natural scenery.
