Interstates 75 and 94 run through the city and provide routes to downtown Detroit, West Michigan and the rest of the country. By way of the interstate, downtown Detroit is just under 18 miles from Taylor, and Ann Arbor is 29 miles away. In January 2024, the department recorded 130 violent offenses. Karl Ziomek, Taylor’s Director of Communications and Marketing, says the Taylor Police Department has responded to increasing crime with several progressive measures. "Taylor Police are currently involved in a ton of campaigns that involve community policing. They are one of the top Downriver law enforcement agencies when it comes to new technology. Recently, they added the StarChase GPS 'dart' system to avoid high-speed chases and purchased a RAD DOG, which is a robotic dog," he says.
