Topeka's destination for sledding
Locals enjoy the outdoors at Shunga Glen Park. The 13-mile Shunga Trail runs through the west side of the park, attaching to a large connection of other trails in Shawnee County along the Shunganunga Creek. It's also home to Rip-On Skate Park, one of three skate parks in Topeka, offering a large bowl and other ramps. A bridge crosses over the creek to the east side of the park, where there's a basketball court and playground. The entire park is also set up as an 18-hole disc golf course. The Quinton Heights Sledding Hill is located on Southwest 24th Street. "If there's one place for sledding, that's the place," says Patrick Habiger, a lifelong resident of Topeka and Realtor with Keller Williams Realty. "We probably get two to five snows a year, and it's the perfect spot. It gets pretty crowded, so you have to be careful. When I was a kid, I got knocked out by a runaway sled." As a bonus to the winter fun, the top of the hill also offers a view of downtown Topeka in the distance.
