Suburban lifestyle with city functionality
Living in the Oral Roberts-Walnut Creek neighborhood combines the functionality of a city with a peaceful suburban lifestyle; within the large neighborhood walls are several gated subdivisions with around-the-clock security, making for quiet nights. “It’s an older part of town. A lot of character in all the homes,” says Neil Patel, real estate consultant at Keller William Advantage. On the neighborhood’s edge, folks can view the Arkansas River along the River Parks Trail. Oral Roberts University is located on the upper west end and is home to over 4,000 students. Those seeking city-like amenities can find assorted bars and a casino open until the early hours. “That area is close to downtown. It’s about a five to ten-minute drive,” Patel says. “You could go to the theatre, concert venues, lots of small dive bars.”
Single-family properties and condos in gated communities
Residential housing can be found on both the south and east ends. These are scattered among different subdivisions, some of which are gated. Most condos reside in the Timbers or Guier Woods communities. A three-bedroom condo can cost between $200,000 to $250,000. Residents can also enjoy resort-like amenities like swimming pools and tennis and basketball courts. Single-family homes vary from split-level to Tudor or French-inspired houses. “The homes are individually designed; they’re not cookie-cutter homes. They’re older but have a lot of character,” Patel says. “The homes go back many years with old school characters like interior crown modeling.” A four-bedroom home can cost $289,000 or up to $600,000. A house with five bedrooms or greater will cost over $800,000.

Hunter Park is to the neighborhood’s southeast, where kids can let loose on the playground and competitors can play disc golf. Dog owners are frequent visitors to the on-site dog park, Biscuit Acres. Hikers and bikers can enjoy the 26 miles of trails within the Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness, three miles west.

Nordaggio’s Coffee is the neighborhood staple for a morning pick-me-up. Enjoy a casual lunch or dinner at Daddy B’s BBQ. Popular dishes at this spot include the catfish and ribs. For a special date night, head to Redrock Canyon Grill for surf and turf options. Tres Amigos Mexican Grill is a crowd-pleaser for its daily happy hours and authentic Mexican flavors.
Weekly groceries can be bought at Walmart Neighborhood Market or Whole Foods Market. The River Spirit Casino Resort houses the 5 O’clock Somewhere Bar, a popular spot for local nightlife. “The Casino has bands perform every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. They have a concert venue with great performances,” Patel says. Notable artists that have performed include Ludacris and Diana Ross. Outside of artists, there are also comedians and kickboxing events.
