Glencoe residents enjoy quiet life near downtown
If someone had to paint a picture of an ideal lifestyle, it probably would look a lot like Glencoe in the St. Louis suburb of Wildwood. “It’s got great schools. Great things to do. There are parks, places to eat,” says Jo Anne LaBat, a Realtor with Red Key Realty West, who sells homes in and around Glencoe and has lived in the area for decades. “People move here for the beautiful landscapes. You can go from here to downtown in a half hour with no traffic. I’ve said, ‘If it gets better than this, I don’t need it.’” Lush and forested, Wildwood could be St. Louis County’s most wooded area, an outcome city planners intended when they incorporated back in 1995.

Glencoe homes sit among hills
In this very hilly and green part of the state, where roads twist and bend, homes often blend into the environment. “They have a lot of homes perched on a hill. You’re going to have some homes that are in neighborhoods, you’ll have some that are going to be out on their own in the country. I think it’s beautiful, Glencoe and Wildwood is just a beautiful area,” LaBat says. The median price of a single-family home in Glencoe is about $650,000, with homes ranging from around $350,000 to nearly $3 million. Most houses sell from $450,000 to $750,000. “Homebuyers probably will find anything from $350,000 up to multimillion dollar houses,” LaBat says.

Babler State Park spans over 2,400 acres
It should come as little surprise in an area as lush and forested as Glencoe that parks would be a priority. Residents have their pick of Glencoe Park, Bluff View Park and Wildwood Community Park, all local parks with playgrounds, picnic tables and places to walk the family dog. But the granddaddy of them all is Babler State Park, with more than 2,400 acres of hiking, picnicking, cycling, camping and horseback riding.

Summer concerts at Glencoe's municipal building
This is a big baseball St. Louis Cardinals fanbase. So, often, you’ll catch people here headed to the ballpark downtown to catch a game. There are also events each week and weekend, especially in the summer, like Music on Main. It’s a weekly event featuring evening performances on the municipal building steps on Fridays during the summer.
Glencoe is car-dependent
With limited bus service this far from the city, most people here drive, or rideshare to get from place to place. With abundant access to roads, highways and interstates, it’s easy to get around. Interstates 64 and 44 can have commuters behind their desks downtown in about 40 minutes.
