The Rudolf Steiner School of Ann Arbor's Lower School is a private school that provides educational programming for students from kindergarten through eighth grade. The school is in the northern area of the neighborhood on Newport Road, just south of Barton Pond. Faculty proudly use Waldorf education programming, an academic method that is more than 100 years old and employed at schools worldwide. Teachers in lower grades typically advance with their students until fifth grade. It is a unique approach that allows teachers to create stronger connections and appreciation for individual students and how they may learn differently from others. Practical arts and mechanical techniques are used in early education, and computers are introduced in the middle school years, helping students build a more physical connection to learning before they begin having daily screen time. The school actively encourages participation by parents and caregivers in its Parent Council, which plays a vital role in guiding the school's educational programming.

We switched to Rudolf Steiner Ann Arbor this year from public schools. My kids are in 3rd and 7th. There have been so many wonderful experiences and my kids LOVE being at Steiner. The way they educate and focus on the whole child is truly incredible. The relationship they create with their peers and teachers is unlike other schools as they move with this same class and teacher grade to grade. Even during a pandemic the community feeling is so much stronger then we've ever experienced before.
