Dr. Ronald E. McNair High School, built in 1964, was originally named Walker High School, but was renamed in 1987 after astronaut Ronald Erwin McNair, who perished in the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion in 1986. This public school for grades 9-12 has a main vision to help all of its students reach their full potential. McNair High School has a 64 percent graduation rate and 52 percent of its students go on to higher education, according to greatschools.org. In 2019, McNair High School launched the Junior Achievement 3DE Program, which is an innovative program formed through a joint venture between the school, Junior Achievement and the local business community. The goal of the program is to better student achievement, student engagement, critical thinking and comprehension. This is achieved by allowing students to gain relevant experience via internships and interactions with local business professionals. McNair High School also features a variety of varsity sports for the fall, winter and spring, including football, cheerleading, softball, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, girls flag football, swimming, baseball, soccer, tennis, track and gymnastics. The school also has an impressive media center that houses more than 18,000 books and contains tools such as iPads, laptops, projectors and document cameras. McNair is a well-rounded school that provides a quality education for students who excel in a variety of areas.

I did not my a good experience at this high school this is one of the worst schools.I been there since 9th grade and we only had about 5 pep rallies.It's like a jail.

The school isn't bad but the teacher don't teach anymore but make us watch videos and write notes and that's for a AP class there is always mess going on in the school

It's the little engine that could. Despite many problems, McNair continues to push out talented students. With more support from the county and community they would be even more successful.

If you really care about getting your child ready for college and the"real world" send them to a better school. It's not the teachers fault. They face challenges and many don't have the support of the administration. Good luck.

I feel that the administrators, especially the principal, focus too much on making this school a prison compound. They do not try to make this school a welcoming learning environment.
