Vanderpoel Humanities Academy is a Chicago Public Schools magnet campus located in the Beverly neighborhood. The school serves more than 250 prekindergarten through eighth grade students in a modern, 21st-century learning environment. The school teaches an array of traditional academic subjects with a strong humanities focus. The Tigers R.O.A.R initiative, which stands for Responsibility, #OWNIT, Acceptance, and Respect, strives to create students that are poised to become future leaders. Students at Vanderpoel Academy take advantage of several activities, including arts initiatives, student council, Beta Club and the Orion's Mind after-school program. Vanderpoel Humanities Academy also hosts a popular back-to-school carnival each year. Vanderpoel Humanities Academy is named after School of the Art Institute of Chicago professor John H. Vanderpoel, who settled in the Beverly neighborhood for most of his life. After his death in 1911, his expansive art collection featuring works from American artists was housed in the school before being moved to a gallery in nearby Ridge Park in the 1920s.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

I feel like I have nothing to worry about because the doors are locked during the school day for the safety of the children.
