GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

I like that it has many different electives. I also like that it makes sures to include the students culture by doing events that helps them express their culture. I also like that teachers are friendly, but I don't like that is is very difficult to schedule an appointment with our counselors.

From this school I have received a lot of kindness from strangers. No school will be perfect because no one is perfect and people are what make up a school. Beyond the petty drama of high school years and the somewhat expected sexism and homophobia from students here, I enjoy my school and appreciate the staff. The arts are a big part of the community and with special art programs housed on campus, I don't think I'd rather be at any other high school.

One of the best schools in Frederick for its diversity, arts program, and overall culture. Yes, it gets a lot of hate in the news for the whole safety aspect, but honestly if you aren't causing problems then it won't affect you at all. All the AP teachers I've ever had were awesome and it's really nice how close it is to FCC and NCI for dual enrollment and internship opportunities. Oh except if you are planning at winning at a team sport (with some exceptions like track) it's very unlikely that that will happen at TJ.

The food is bad, I would get threatened by classmates often, people bring knifes and weapons to school. The teachers don't help much with these problems, lots of bullying and harassment. One time someone brought a knife to a lunch room and tried to stab a classmate, lots of physical violence and fig...

I have three children, one is graduating from TJ this month, another next year, and my youngest will be a freshman next year. I can’t say enough good things about our experience with TJ. I was very nervous given some of the low ratings but I have been so impressed by the staff and administration. I...

This school is amazing. The staff really care about the students success. I went on to get a PhD in aerospace engineering and within my peer group we had numerous JD’s, PhD’s and MD. This school set students up for success.

Our family is beyond pleased with GTJHS. Coming from another school in the district that does not celebrate diversity and does not recognize students as maturing young adults, this school is like a breath of fresh air! I'm dismayed to see that it has a relatively low rating on Great Schools. I don't...
