Weddington High School, located in the south-central part of town, is one of the top performing high schools not only in the district but also the state overall. The school serves approximately 1,800 students and is operated by the Union County public school system. Weddington High School rates in the top five percent of math and reading test scores in the state of North Carolina, and has been rated as one of the best high schools in the U.S. by Newsweek magazine.
The school opened in 1998 with a large modern facility on a spacious campus shared by the town’s middle and elementary schools. The school quickly rose to prominence in both academic and athletic performance. Weddington High quickly attained the title of Honor School of Excellence due to the academic performance of its students. In addition, its student athletes began winning state championships soon after the school opened. Its theater and arts programs have won state and national awards as well. Today more than 60% of its students participate in advanced placement (AP) courses, and overall the school attains one of the highest graduation and college attendance rates in the state. I love how big sports are in the school, especially football season is the highlight of the school year. Sports in general are a big part of weddington. If you don't play sports it will be harder for you to make friends unless you do something like band or theater.

Weddington High has been a wonderful experience for our daughter. We moved into this district so she could attend this school. We have not been disappointed. The teachers are top notch and have office hours to answer questions before and after class. Overall, Weddington High has prepared our daughter for university.

Weddington High School does an excellent job at providing hundreds of options for different tastes. They offer an amazing hs experience with talented sports. It has been a joy spending my 4 years of hs here.
