GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

South could be considered a mediocre highschool, my graduating class, by the end of our four years, brought a lot of life to the school, and our ASA and student council, specifically, is really involved and a good part of our school. Bathrooms, more often than not, are filled with students vaping, the food is ok on some days and not really great on others, and the teachers are really 50/50 and your experience with them will be determined by your behavior with them.

South has dedicated teachers and a range of established programs. Unfortunately, the district redesign has resulted in major cuts to arts and the near elimination of the the engineering program. The student body is diverse and accepting of all.

I have taught at South for over 25 years. The demographics have changed dramatically over that time, but the staff's dedication to learning has not. We are a school that prizes diversity and social justice. We have extremely active theatre, music, arts and sports programs. If you're looking for a sc...

Overall, I strongly disliked my time at South. Was it the worst? No, I am sure if I had gone to North or Roosevelt or Edison it would have been far worse but South is mainly celebrated by those that it caters to. If you fall anywhere to the right of Karl Marx, politically, you may as well be complet...

The administration at this school are incompetent and even bullies. They drive away dedicated staff for reasons that amount to personal bias. Preference is shown to teachers who are friends of admin, leaving many staff members feeling like second-class citizens. The leadership at this school is not...

My daughter is a Freshman at South High School and was able to quickly find a great group of friends, get involved in activities she loved, and embrace leadership opportunities like Racial Justice Day. She is excelling academically and socially. South has an especially strong dance, theater, and art...
