Newcomers entering Eleanor McMain Secondary School might wonder what the two large statues over the entrance represent, but students know the stone women are Industry and Knowledge—two traits the school was founded upon. First opened in 1932, the school was an all-girls academy and remained so until becoming coeducational in 1952. Today, McMain Secondary serves grades 9 through 12 and ranks among the 25 best schools in New Orleans. The school is committed to helping their students explore and maximize their academic and personal potential. They are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, encourage students to take advanced placement tests, have an excellent gifted program, and offer various club sports. While McMain Secondary does not have before or after school programs for students, they do offer transportation to and from campus. The school has different admission requirements for grade 9 than for grades 10 through 12. Those wishing to enter grade 9 should be a sibling of a current student or must be enrolled in McDonogh 42 or Andrew Wilson Schools to be considered before the rest of New Orleans’ applicants. When it comes to grades 10 through 12, preference is given to siblings before other applicants. Older students wishing to earn college credit also have an advantage with McMain Secondary, as they allow dual enrollment for upperclassmen.

Overall , after being here for 4 years I do think this school can use some changes not only the staff but also the environment. It been plenty for times where safety hazards were happening . Thing where things was going on with students with the parent knowing ,It been a couple of times where I've seen bugs near food

My experience at Mcmain is not good. My mother is an old alumnus and she always talks about how good McMCain is but the school has changed. It's not as good as it once was. They let kids do bad things and get into trouble with little consequences. It's not a magnet school because many students aren't smart and don't belong here. Mr.Smith is a good Dean of students, but it's just too much bad at the school and he can't stop all of it. Many kids bring drugs to school. They have seniors selling weed pens and kids also popping pills. It is easy to get into the wrong crowd and engage in the bad things around McMain. If you're a parent please don't enroll your kids here. If you're a kid who easily influenced.
