The Academy of St Joseph is located at 111 Washington Place in the West Village of New York City. The school currently has 86 students enrolled in grades Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8, with a student to teacher ratio of 4 to 1. Tuition is $26,700. The Academy of St. Joseph is in a newly restored and renovated building adjacent to the designated New York City Landmark University Parish of St. Joseph on 6th Avenue and one block from Washington Square and close to New York University. The building was completely renovated. It has ten classrooms, a beautiful assembly, dining hall, library, and an art studio. The building has an elevator. The average class size is 12 and our maximum is 18 per class. Once a class reaches 18, a teaching assistant is added to work with students. In 2007, Cardinal Edward Egan, in collaboration with Secretary of Education Dr. Catherine Hickey, resolved that there should be an independent Catholic school within the Archdiocese of New York. The founders of the Academy of St. Joseph had a vision of a school that would encourage academic excellence in the humanities and teach the mixed traditions of the Church. The Academy of St. Joseph has a supportive parent body and a strong sense of community. Graduates have gone on to attend high schools such as Bronx High School of Science, Fordham Preparatory School, and the Horace Mann School.

I am currently a student at AOSJ and I have really enjoyed my time here. I have a close friend group that I have had since I was young and they were all welcoming. The classes are really small which was helpful in lower school, but no so great in middle school. The school has a GREAT music program, but all students are required to do the musical, which I like. The school offers an honors math program which is great and science and history are strong. However, the english is program is not challenging and standard.

The AOSJ has been an unbelievable spot for our daughter. She started in pre-k and has truly blossomed. The innovative approach, the opportunity for parents to get involved, and the small class size were all amazing selling points. For an elite institution in The Village the tuition is also highly approachable. Much of this is credit to the founding headmistress Ms. Coombs who truly ensures students are tomorrow's leaders, not followers.

AOSJ is a decent school. For every positive aspect, there is a negative. The small school aspect is a double-edged sword. The clubs are halfhearted and overpriced. Also, they force kids to participate in the musical. However, the academics are a welcome challenge. We get fun projects. Overall, my time here has been fine.

Great school. Excellent teachers and administration. Amazing community and I love that they focus on their social- emotional learning. They go above and beyond to support students' mental health and emotional well-being. AOSJ graduates get into the top high schools in Manhattan most of them have a f...

AOSJ is a small school with a strong emphasis in academics and building moral character. Our daughter came from a high-performing public school to AOSJ in 6th grade this year, but she too was surprised how much she has learned— even in these first few weeks of school! In addition to its school motto...

We wholeheartedly adore AOSJ and are overjoyed to have found it. It's the school I've always dreamed my daughters would attend. Every day, my girls eagerly look forward to school, which is no small feat for middle schoolers. They can't wait to share all that they've learned with us.The teachers at A...
