Small but mighty, Earth School is a 240 student elementary school serving pre-kindergarten through fifth grade in Alphabet City. Founded in 1992, this thriving community adheres to the belief that children do their best when they learn in their preferred style of learning. Hands-on learning is of utmost importance at this elementary school. Students are encouraged to explore, get messy, and dive deeply into learning. Earth School provides an arts-rich curriculum that pairs well with its commitment to knowing each child’s strengths and interests. Students enjoy dance, visual arts, and music classes, as well as a comprehensive earth studies program, which includes a full-equipped science laboratory and adjoining garden. Pre-k through fifth grades learn from an extensive curriculum focusing on life, earth, and physical sciences, and third through fifth graders participate in an annual overnight camping trip. Earth School drives an eco-minded values system by integrating eco-literacy into all aspects of its curriculum, as well as maintaining strong sustainability practices throughout its campus.
