Located at 75 Morton Street in New York City, Middle School 297 has a diverse student body. This school was the result of a decade-long journey by parents and community leaders to pressure city and state officials to provide a much needed middle school in the Village area. Officially founded in 2017, Middle School 297 values curiosity, hands-on projects and group work. Students take part in labor union simulations and discuss real-world events as they occur. A highlight of the school is its strong social studies program that encourages students to explore topics deeply. Sixth grade students experience vocal music, chorus, drama, visual arts and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) electives and then choose one to focus on in seventh and eighth grades. All sports take place after school. The Middle School building on Morton Street has a cafeteria, a library and a “gymnatorium” (combined gym and auditorium). It highlights three science labs, multiple reading resource rooms and many more fascinating features. A goal of the middle school is that every student inquires, questions, creates and evolves as a part of this community to achieve success in high school and beyond. Manhattan Youth offers free after school activities for enrolled students every school day and assembles programs that support the culture and curriculum of the school. Manhattan Youth also provides a complete extracurricular program including interscholastic sports teams, school plays, STEM, literacy and arts enrichment activities in addition to daily homework support.

I am surprised this school received an "A". Academically the school is very low-level. Sending my child here felt more like sending them to summer camp than a school.

75 Morton has been an excellent experience for my son. He had outstanding teachers in a supportive environment. His writing has improved immensely due to amazing and tough ELA teachers. He genuinely likes and admires all of his teachers.
