Mark Twain Elementary School is located at 2451 W. Main St. in the Oklahoma City neighborhood of Westlawn Gardens. It is part of the Oklahoma City School District. Named for the writer and humorist Mark Twain and boasting a mascot of the Wildcats, the school educates preschool through sixth grade students. After-school tutoring is available for first through fourth grade students. Mark Twain Elementary School also offers Early Birds, a school-readiness program for parents, grandparents and caretakers of children under the age of 5. Sessions are offered three times per year at convenient locations, along with child care. Each person that attends takes home a bag of free books, toys and activities. School clubs and activities include volleyball, basketball, soccer, cheer and tennis. The school has two raised flower beds with plants like milkweed, echinacea, verbena, salvia and native grasses to attract monarch butterflies and other pollinators. The Oklahoma City Zoo provided a grant for initial garden materials. The garden is easily viewed from both the street and playground. The community is welcome to come and experience the growth at Mark Twain Elementary School.
