Named in honor of the famed Mexican-American civil rights activist, Cesar E. Chavez, Cesar Chavez Leadership Academy not only serves students but its South Phoenix community as well. With a commitment to give back, whether through its on-site food pantry or school events, the academy inspires more than 400 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade as part of the Roosevelt School District. Here, the teachers and staff strive to follow the school’s mission to provide “learning for all in every moment.” For starters, Cesar Chavez gives Apple iPads and Apple Crayons to every student to ensure equal access to digital technology and equips every classroom with 70” smart televisions to make learning in the 21st century as seamless as possible. Within a STEM-focused core curriculum, lessons incorporate Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for English language arts, an Into Reading program, EnVision Mathematics, Carnegie Learning, Discovery Science Techbooks, digital HMH Science Dimensions, and Discovery Education for social studies. Students can also complement in-class learning with a number of digital programs including PowerUp Literacy, Rosetta Stone, and Renaissance Freckle Math, among others. Outside of the classroom, the academy hosts a range of before- and after-school activities via 21st Century Clubs including arts, music, environmental literacy programs, and coding, just to name a few. Like at other schools in the district, student athletes can compete in basketball, volleyball, soccer, and cheerleading. At Cesar Chavez, everyone can actively pursue their best future.

My daughter is a bright girl and usually loved going to school but her transition into 1st grade was not...

This is a school that is undergoing a metamorphosis. There are 9 existing teachers left from last years' staff. 17 of us are new. This is my 7th year of teaching and I am well educated with experience in the classroom as well as a Master's degree. Cesar Chavez is beginning to run like a well oiled m...
