Founded as a school of choice in 2011, Madison Traditional Academy is the only school in the Madison School District of Phoenix serving kindergarten through eighth grade. While the academy offers open enrollment beyond its district’s borders, parents or caregivers of students must meet a volunteering requirement. With more than 800 students, the academy believes in starting education with the six pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. From that point, children can build a foundation to thrive in whatever they choose to pursue. The academy is without a doubt known for its academic excellence, often ranking in the top 10 middle schools in the state of Arizona. When it comes to test scores, students have performed far above average in reading and twice the state’s average in math—quite a remarkable accomplishment! In the classroom, students learn with traditional teacher-directed and textbook-led instruction, but make further gains with faster-paced Saxon Math, Spalding Phonics, and accelerated reading. All of these resources working within a traditional philosophy of consistency and daily new lessons give children the necessary structure to learn with more confidence. Madison also offers after school programs, and students in fifth through eighth grades have the opportunity to participate in after school team sports.

I am writing this review with a heavy heart after my experience with the special education program. As a parent, I had high hopes that my child would receive the support and understanding they needed to thrive. Unfortunately, that was not the case. From the very beginning, it was clear that the staf...

I was previously a student here, and graduated in 8th grade in 2022. I made some great friends here, and most teachers are very cool and teach well. The best teacher I have ever seen in the 3 different schools I have went to is John Williams who is the 7th and 8th grade social studies teacher. He is...

MTA is an absolutely fabulous school! This is our 4th year at the school & we have two kids who attend. Yes, the curriculum is advanced & rigorous. Yes, they have high expectations academically & behaviorally. It is not a good fit for every child- that’s why it’s a school of choice & not a neighborh...
