2.5
As an entire building devoted to ninth-grade education, the Rockford Freshman Center helps create a strong community and guides students to feel confident entering high school. The historic building that houses the freshman center was first constructed in 1972 as a junior high school. The center was dedicated in 2000, and renovations in 2010 and 2015 provided additional school security and modern classroom settings. This Blue Ribbon Exemplary School is part of Rockford Public Schools, which offers robust sports programs across the district. Students can participate in football, sideline cheer and soccer, and they can continue to compete in their chosen sport when they move on to Rockford High, conveniently located just west of the freshman center. Besides athletics, students can join the Rockford Leo Club, band or theater and take fine art classes. World language courses, including Spanish, Mandarin, French and German, prepare students for global opportunities. Online courses incorporate modern educational practices and expand course options as students explore their passions and prepare for their future.
