Set on 20 acres of land overlooking Mission Valley, the all-girls Academy of Our Lady of Peace is placed in idyllic surrounds and steeped in history. Founded in 1882, the academy is the oldest high school in San Diego and is highly ranked academically. Referred to as OLP by locals, the academy offers rigorous courses in a wide array of subjects; in fact, OLP offers 25 AP and Honors courses, an intimate 14-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio and a 100% success rate at getting its students into higher education. Though the school itself is Catholic, OLP’s student body represents different religious, racial and social backgrounds. At the heart of its mission statement, the school works to empower young women in an innovative learning environment that honors the individual and fosters community. With a block schedule and college prep curriculum, students are prepared for college and beyond and invited to participate in a wide variety of electives. Their STEM certificate, for example, allows students interested in the disciplines to take any of 30 field-related courses. Other unique electives include robotics, entrepreneurship and video production. With 55 clubs and over 600 leadership roles, there’s never any shortage of activities to keep students stimulated. For those interested in sports, the school offers 17 different teams with 60% of students participating in at least one sport. With its abundant offerings, ideal setting and commitment to a global education, OLP is a perfect fit for many North Park families.

The Academy is amazing at helping girls succeed in school. Everyone is able to find something they are passionate about and the school spirit is like no other. It is a home away from home and makes school enjoyable.

OLP sets you up very well, I am constantly changed in my classes yet not overwhelmed. OLP has many resources especially in the counseling department, both academically and personally.

For a private school, their attention to detail- particularly when it comes to dress code and uniform violations is non-existent. My daughter is out of uniform most days as are many of her friends and no one says or does anything about it. It is a vast misrepresentation of how a private all-girls' school should operate. We pay for uniforms and most days the girls look unkempt, slovenly and the impression it leaves is horrific.

My daughter has been coming to OLP and she’s not the same girl. OLP environment is not a healthy place for a teenager because of the lack of supervision from the staff members. Young girls ditching school and having sexual relationships at really young age, buying vape pens from a near smoke shop th...

1/10, and the one point I give is only for the kindness and efforts of the teachers. You will get treated poorly by the administration if you ever have to contact them, which is pretty hard to not do.

I love OLP. I was a transfer student junior year and everyone was so supportive and wonderful. Just one year ago, I was on this site, reading into each comment and trying to imagine myself here. I made the right choice. Of course, it is VERY academically rigorous. But that is what I wanted. The scho...

Graduate of 1986 during a time where I wanted to go to school and develop my voice without the influence of of males. Well I did develop my own voice. I was never part of the cliques and never needed to feel like I needed to belong. I was a Navy physician in the end. Loved it there and hoping it has...
