GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Southside is a pretty good school overall. We have some extremely qualified teachers of whom have helped me immensely in my classes. I owe a lot to my AP English teacher from last year. I don't really eat the food here, its not the best quality but also not the worst. Southside is very good in the athletic department, however, the football team is highly favorited over other sports per usual. Ive played soccer here for many years and we barely have any people outside of parents attend our games. There have been many times the school hasn't promoted our team or talked about our successes like they do for every other sport. It's obvious our school doesn't really care about our women's soccer team, which is very frustrating. The weight room we use doesn't have any equipment besides benches, and our dumbbells don't go higher than 15s.

My experience at Southside has been overall decent I know it not the worse place but there is definitely more they should work on but as a kid with a visual impairment I feel that my needs have been met and there are some teachers that aren't the best but the good ones are worth it because some really do care about you and make up for the others

My child started his junior year at this school and the faculty has been nothing short of amazing! The students accepted him as if he has been in their school his whole life. I believe this is a true example of the leadership beginning with admin and that trinkles all the way down to the students.

This school is one of the best public schools in alabama hands down. It prepared my kids for ACT and SAT, college, and give them the opportunity for advanced classes and dual enrollment. Everyone wants there kids to go to this type of school to prepare for their future.

We had four children go through the John Jones Elem., Southside Elem. and Southside HS schools and we couldn't be happier w/the results. All four have completed college (w/honors) and I give a very large amount of credit to the Southside areas schools. No school is perfect and there's always room fo...

We came from the "best" rated school district (and most expensive) in Georgia. Once here, I was DELIGHTED to find an old fashioned, loving community of teachers who care, and principals who don't take flack from anyone. What a blessing. The education isn't the best money can buy, but no amount of mo...
