The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
The Test Score Rating reflects annual state test results for this school compared with scores statewide.

Frederick Douglass high school has been a great school for me. I was in their PTECH program where I took college classes while taking high school classes. I was able to turn to my teachers and counselors whenever I needed help with anything, including my college applications. I also made a lot of friends during my four years. The best part of my experience was the time I won homecoming Prince in my junior year.

Frederick Douglass, in my opinion, is a very decent and overlooked school in PG county. The programs like IB and P-tech push our critical thinking and academic skills while preparing us for college. Our clubs push for involvement and inclusion. Our sports are competitive and friendly. Most of our teachers care deeply about how we are as scholars and as young adults. I would want to see the food and resources become better in the future.

Clarifying my 3-4 star answers: The food at FDHS is decent, but it has its off days. I remember I once saw an administrator bite into a nectarine, and it was completely rotted on the inside. That deterred me from eating fruit from the cafeteria all together-- except for grapes, which I simply can't resist. Now I just inspect them very carefully. The science facilities feel neglected. My science teacher has had an issue with the sewage in her classroom's sinks for the 2 years I've been in her class. It always stinks in there. Some days the smell is bearable, others it's absolutely putrid. I wish that the cleaning staffs gave more care to her work environment. And as far as security goes, I believe that our security guards do an amazing job. It's the students, however, that make it unsafe. I don't usually hear about weapons or illicit products being snuck into school all that often, but there's almost always a fight somewhere. If not every other day, at least once or twice a week.
I love Douglass. I have had 2 children graduate from Douglass, 1 child and 1 niece are still attending. For the most part staff are responsive to emails and for the very few who aren’t administration will support with getting a response. Douglass has a family feel environment. Most of the students a...
This school does not care about your child's safety at all. My child comes to school everyday to learn and doesn't create a problem for anyone. Unfortunately we live in a world where some people do not believe in teaching their children to respect others and act like civil normal human beings. My ch...
