Sweeping views and scenic environs
Located just north of Spokane, Dartford is a small community known for its tranquil setting and picturesque landscapes. Sprawling over the low mountains and hills near the Little Spokane River, this neighborhood offers a peaceful, semirural lifestyle and easy access to urban amenities. The combination of natural beauty and modern conveniences makes Dartford an appealing place for those seeking a quiet retreat without sacrificing proximity to the city. “It’s definitely one of the woodsiest parts of the Greater Spokane area,” says Realtor Steven Silbar of John L. Scott Real Estate, who has worked in the area for over a decade. “You can kind of find anything up there, from a standard suburban housing development to a secluded mountainside estate with miles of views.”

Houses differ east and west of 395
Dartford features a mix of older homes and newer construction that offers modern amenities. Architectural styles range from traditional farmhouses and ranch-style homes to contemporary designs and custom-built properties. The neighborhood has seen significant development in recent years, with new projects springing up regularly, but there are distinctions between the east and west of State Highway 395. “It’s higher density to the east. You follow up on Hatch Road; you have neighborhood to neighborhood,” says Chris Heftal, developer and real estate broker at Kestell Company Realtors. “West of 395 becomes hillier and more mountainous.” East of 395 are primarily Craftsman-influenced ranch-styled homes with at least three bedrooms and 2,500 square feet. The range on this side is between $400,000 to $1.5 million. On the western end are gated communities, larger homes with greater acreage or empty lots. “There are two gated communities that are part of the area called Country Hills and River Bluff Ranch,” says Heftal. “The ones in the gated communities want the city-like amenities and neighbors but want elbow room.” Homes in the subdivisions east of the 395 typically sell for between $400,000 and $1 million, while properties on the west side usually feature at least a few acres and can go for anywhere from $600,000 to the high seven figures.

The neighborhood is near several natural attractions, including the Little Spokane River Natural Area, which offers opportunities for fishing, kayaking and nature walks; Haynes Estate Conservation Area; and Van Horn, Edburg and Bass, Conservation Area. Together, these public recreation areas feature over a dozen miles of mountainous, wooded hiking trails and some great views. There are also a number of smaller public parks in the neighborhood. Pine River and Bidwell Community parks feature volleyball, pickleball and basketball courts along with playgrounds and picnic space. During the warmer months, the Northside Family Aquatics Facility has a miniature water park with water slides, swimming pools and diving boards.
