Whether you’re an equestrian or are simply looking to step away from the active atmosphere of the city, it may be worth considering Lenox Township as your new home. With thousands of acres of farmland, nature preserves and golf courses, there’s plenty of room to stretch your legs and enjoy the fresh air, while Richmond and New Haven’s convenient, though limited, amenities are within a 15-minute drive of any point in the township.
Large lots and quiet streets are one of the bigger draws to this rural community, with yards ranging from two acres to 15 acres and beyond. These lot sizes are particularly appealing to horse owners, along with the nearby trails and equestrian centers. Build dates vary vastly throughout the area, with some homes dating back to the early 1900s and others as recent as 2022. Ranch-style homes are the most common style here, with some brick modern traditional houses and Colonial Revivals sprinkled throughout. Those looking to build can get a 2-acre lot along Haven Ridge Road for $85,000.
Students of Lenox Township are served by both Richmond, New Haven and Anchor Bay public schools, all of which earn overall Niche grades of B-minus or higher. Francois Maconce Elementary School earns a B-plus overall grade from Niche and has a student-to-teacher ratio of 15-1. Richmond Middle School gives its learners unique elective courses to consider, including animation studio, multimedia development and music appreciation. Both Richmond Middle and New Haven High School earn B-minus grades from Niche. Students of New Haven High can earn dual enrollment credits by taking courses through Macomb Community College’s Early College program and graduating with two years of college credit under their belt.
Residents of all ages can continue their education outside of the classroom at the Jean Waterloo Lenox Township Library. “While we are a small library, we host lots of events for community members of all ages to get involved in,” says Beth Bogaert, the Library Director. “We host book clubs for kids and adults and seasonal events like our haunted library, where we transform the floor into a haunted house each Halloween season. We also have educational programs and speaker presentations around topics like public speaking and technology.”
Countryside views can be enjoyed wherever you are within the township, and driving along the rural lanes can take you to one of the many nearby outdoor recreation areas. Wetzel State Recreation Area is home to four miles of trails ideal for hiking and cross-country skiing, and anglers can cast a line from one of the park’s many ponds. Horseback riders can find accessible trails a short drive west at Wolcott Mill Metro Park, with 10 miles of trails. Horse-lovers can also be found at Arcadia Equestrian Center to take advantage of the boarding services and riding arenas. Local sports enthusiasts can use the facilities at Lenox Township Park, including the soccer fields, baseball diamond, tennis courts and basketball court. After burning off some energy, you can enjoy a packed lunch under one of the covered picnic pavilions. You’ll find three golf facilities throughout the community, with 72 holes across town. In the warmer months, at Oak Ridge Golf Club, you can enjoy a refreshing drink on the patio while listening to live music.
After a full day outdoors, treat yourself to a meal at New Haven’s Main Street Grill, where you can savor tasty pub fare like deep-fried mushrooms, jumbo shrimp and turkey Reuben melts. To satisfy your sweet tooth, visit Achatz Handmade Pi Co. to enjoy delectable pie slices, cheesecake, and other baked goods. Lenox Township residents can do their grocery shopping at the local Meijer or Kroger. For more amenities, you can head to downtown Detroit or Port Huron, which are just a 30-minute drive away.
