Countryside feel in remote Pueblo location
Situated 5 miles from downtown Pueblo, the Park West neighborhood has a countryside feel with some suburban traits. The neighborhood is essentially split between three different areas: a residential section towards the southeast, a collection of medical offices in its northwest and a huge section of open land, where folks driving on 24th Street can see telephone lines and catch glimpses of the medical buildings on the other side. Park West is isolated from the middle of Pueblo, meaning evenings are quiet and traffic is minimal. The neighborhood also borders two major highways, making it easy to connect around the city.
4 miles to nearby parks
Despite what its name might suggest, Park West has no parks of its own. The closest major park is City Park, located 4 miles south. Kids can cool off at the swimming pool or practice their tricks at the skateboard park. Competitive games occur at the athletic courts and the disc golf course. The Pueblo Zoo, also in the park, holds 400 animals. Less than 4 miles away are two golf courses, including the membership-based Pueblo Country Club, which has a swimming pool, tennis courts and a pro shop. Elmwood Golf Course is the nearest public course, 4 miles away. Group fitness classes, a gymnasium and a swimming pool are all available with a membership at the YMCA of Pueblo, right in the neighborhood. “Those who live on the west side can go out to ride ATVs or shoot recreationally—they have outdoor ranges,” says Katie Ely, realtor at The Cutting Edge, Realtors who’s been serving the area for more than five years. West of Highway 45 is the Pueblo Motorsports Park. The park frequently hosts racing events.
More apartments than single-family homes
While Park West has some single-family homes, it’s largely dominated by apartments. More than 55% of property in Park West is apartments and senior living facilities, mostly located by the medical offices. Detached homes in Park West are situated in the neighborhood’s southeast end. Contemporary and midcentury ranches sit on lots of up to a half-acre. Some properties have garages, while others have driveways. "If you want to afford a single-family home, this area is known for the affordability,” Ely says. Prices range from $70,000 for an investment property and $330,000 for a contemporary home from the 21st century.
2.5 mile drive to Highway 50 amenities
Park West has no restaurants or shopping. Reaching these nearby amenities will require a 2.5-mile drive on Highway 50. People can start their mornings with coffee and light breakfast at Love Mug Coffee Shop. Cherry Thai is a local favorite, especially its Pad Thai and stir fry. Shah’s The American Gyro serves multiple variations of the gyros, plus rice platters, gyro fries and burritos. Big-box retailers like Lowe’s, Sam’s Club, Walmart Supercenter and Ross Dress for Less are near the Greek restaurant, and groceries are available at Albertson’s.
13 AP courses at Centennial High
Kids can begin their education at Morton Elementary, which earns a C grade from Niche, before moving on to Risley International Academy of Innovation, a C-minus school. The oldest high school in the city, Centennial High, is where students can earn their diplomas. The B-minus school offers 13 advanced placement courses.
Bordered by Highways 45 and 50
A car is a must in Park West. Highways 45 and 50 border the neighborhood, providing easy travel around the city and Pueblo West. Parkview Medical Center, one of the city’s major employers, has some medical offices on the northwest end. Additionally, there are independent medical specialists located in that same area.
