Up-and-coming
King Charles, on Raleigh’s east side, is an urban residential neighborhood where small lots sit on quiet streets. About 2 miles from Downtown, the neighborhood feels secluded from the surrounding metropolitan hubbub. Residents enjoy access to the Raleigh Country Club and top-rated schools, as well as everyday amenities a short drive from their homes. “It was a somewhat neglected area of Raleigh for a long time,” says Realtor Ellen Pitts with Compass, who has been selling homes in the area for a decade. “It’s just now starting to see some new developments and teardowns, with newer or larger homes going up.”

Hitting the links at Raleigh Country Club
The last golf course designed by architect Donald Ross, the Raleigh Country Club offers well-maintained greens and a challenging game. If locals opt to become members, they’ll have access to all facilities managed by McConnell Golf across the region. In addition to golf, Raleigh Country Club offers an outdoor pool (with a swim team), a restaurant, a kids club and an event space that can be rented. There are also a few pocket parks within walking distance of some homes. At Lockwood Park, kids can race down the double slide or build castles in the sandbox. Culpepper Circle Park sits in a residential area and, as the name suggests, is a circular green space in the middle of residential roads, almost like a large grassy median.
