Popular waterside neighborhood in north Seattle
Green Lake is in north Seattle, just 6 miles from downtown. It's the same distance west to Puget Sound's Shilshole Bay. "It's a super popular, very central neighborhood with a lot going on and very high prices," says Geoff Hill, managing broker and a top-producing agent with Keller Williams Greater Seattle. Highlights include waterfront homes, plenty of shops and eateries and a sizeable park with endless recreational opportunities.
The Green Lake neighborhood's access to the water and numerous outdoor activities sets it apart.
Green Lake locals and their dogs love early morning walks around the lake's 2.8 mile path.

Green Lake Park, Shilshole Bay nearby
At the center of the neighborhood is Green Lake Park, which has beaches with lifeguards, a wading pool, a playground and sports courts and fields. "On the first really beautiful day that we get in the spring, everybody in the world is there," Hill says, "The park will get crowded, so people try to hit it up in the morning or at dusk. There are two different paths; one hugs the water's edge. You can use bikes or Rollerblades on the path that's paved, but it's more popular with people walking with strollers and whatnot." The park is also home to the Seattle Public Theater, a community theater inside a converted bathhouse.
Woodland Park is at the south end of the lake. Hill says the park has plenty of amenities, including a skills park for BMX and a pitch-and-putt golf course, and it hosts concerts in the meadow all summer. The Woodland Park Zoo is here as well.
Puget Sound's Shilshole Bay is 6 miles west of Green Lake. The area's bayside highlights include Shilshole Bay Marina, a fishing pier and sailing and yacht clubs. A bit to the north is Golden Gardens Park, which has one of the only sandy beaches in Seattle.
Green Lake's abundance of outdoor activities includes lake side tennis courts
The basketball courts next to the Green Lake Community Center are popular in the summer.

Condos and townhouses, many of which are fairly new, range from about $650,000 to $1 million.

Layers Green Lake, a food truck turned brick-and-mortar, routinely sells out of its playfully named sandwiches and salads, like I Want to Hold Your Ham and Jon Bon Chovy. Little Red Hen has live music Thursday through Saturday. The Atlantic Crossing pub hosts the Seattle chapter of the American Outlaws, a group for U.S. soccer supporters.
Boutique fitness businesses are common here, with exercise studios and bicycle shops, athletic wear and running stores, like Super Jock ‘n Jill. For groceries, there are two PCC Community Markets, a Whole Foods and Safeway. Roughly 3 miles to the north, there's Northgate Station shopping mall, which includes department stores, big-box stores and eateries.
Ever popular Layers Green Lake serves up inventive sandwiches across from the wading pool.

I love the diversity that Seattle has established for transportation. There are many bike trails and buses to offer the residents alternatives to get to work and school.

Local business are everywhere here. The problem is that they close down pretty easily because the taxes are so high here.

Housing is the worst here. It is very expensive to live here in a decent area. Most people have to rent out a room in their house just to afford it.

The weather is awful. People try to warn you before you come here but you don't understand till you live here what it is like. The summers here are amazing but after living though the winters here you feel like you deserve it.
