Scenic views in Spokane

Located on Spokane's South Hill, Manito is distinguished by its scenic beauty and historic residences, providing an idyllic setting within the city's urban landscape. The neighborhood is primarily known for its namesake, Manito Park, which covers much of the neighborhood and acts as a central hub for community activity and recreation. “It’s really an idyllic place to live,” says Mike Bass, managing broker with Century 21 Beutler & Associates and lifelong Spokane resident. “The parks are a big part of the neighborhood, especially Manito, which is kind of the heart of the city.” If you enjoy walking around your own neighborhood, I don’t think there’s a better place to live in Spokane.”

Early 20th-Century homes

This scenic community is well-known for its wooded enclaves, spacious yards and early 20th-century homes. Pre-war Craftsman and Tudor homes are common throughout the neighborhood and have generally been well-maintained, preserving their historic appeal. The neighborhood also features a mix of Cape Cods, mid-century moderns and colonial revivals. Contemporary new construction makes up a small but growing part of the local housing market. Home prices range from $400,000 to $900,000 due to the quality of the preserved historic homes in the community. Prices are a bit more budget-friendly than homes in nearby neighborhoods like Rockwood, making it a popular choice for homebuyers looking for a good deal.

Manito Park and High Drive

Manito Park, the centerpiece of the neighborhood, is one of Spokane's most beloved parks and a major draw for the area. Covering 90 acres, the park was designed by the famed Olmsted Brothers in 1913, and features manicured gardens, walking paths, playgrounds, a conservatory, and a duck pond, making it a popular destination throughout the year. The park's diverse landscapes offer numerous recreational opportunities, from picnicking and jogging to bird watching and seasonal flower displays. The park is also home to the Park Bench Cafe, a secluded coffee and ice cream shop perfect for an afternoon pick-me-up. Cannon Hill Park is another favorite for residents, with beautiful lawns lined with trees that have gorgeous color in the fall, while High Drive Park and Conservation Area feature miles of popular hiking and biking trails, along with excellent views of West Spokane.
