Quiet community tucked between river valleys
Tucked away in pastoral hills positioned between two river valleys is the small, quiet suburb of Tice Valley. It’s lush canopy of trees and mountain surrounds make the neighborhood seem remote, but most homes are mere minutes from shopping, dining and recreational amenities. Not only is Tice Valley home to a bustling shopping center, but it’s also just 3 miles from downtown Walnut Creek, a small city in the East Bay region, and about 2 miles from a massive nature park. It also boasts a low crime rate and highly rated schools, drawing in people from all walks of life.
Many of the homes in Tice Valley are lucky enough to have views of Mt Diablo.

Hiking in Sugarloaf Open Space
One of the neighborhood's most popular amenities is Tice Valley Community Gymnasium and Park, an 8.4-acre space with a recreation center, age-designated playgrounds, a soccer field and picnic areas. Hikers enjoy Old Oak Park, an undeveloped 16-acre field with connections to trails off Creekside and Birchmount Drives. Neighboring Rossmoor, a designated retirement community, is also known for its hiking options, which include nearly a dozen trails and the photo-worthy Rossmoor Labyrinth rock maze. For a quiet escape into nature, the 177-acre Sugarloaf Open Space sits just outside of town and offers scenic views of Mount Diablo, Shell Ridge and Las Trampas Ridge, 3 miles of trails, picnic areas, a native plant garden and an amphitheater.
Sugarloaf Open Space is on the edge of Tice Valley and offers quiet and peaceful hiking.
Sugar Loaf Open Space Preserve has multiple trails with many trees and open fields.

Midcentury ranches and custom contemporary builds
Narrow country roads twist and turn through the neighborhood, passing midcentury homes on lots dotted with oaks and evergreens. Most houses were built throughout the 20th century, though a handful of new builds have popped up over the years. "It's an older neighborhood, but because there's so much demand to live in the area, there's been a lot of new development," says Realtor Helen Yong of eXp Realty of California, Inc. Ranch-style and custom contemporary homes are the most popular, but homebuyers can also find bungalows with wide porches, craftsman homes decorated with prominent rafters, midcentury modern dwellings with steeply slanted rooflines and Spanish Missions with stucco facades. Home prices in the area can range from around $1 million for small, unrenovated homes to upwards of $3.5 million for new modern builds or larger, updated older homes.
Tice Valley is full of elegance with a bit of country charm with all of the hills and fields.

Summer events hosted by the city
Walnut Creek comes to life in the summer with community events celebrating family, food, wine and art. The summer festivities kick off in May with the first Walnut Creek First Wednesday Street Fest celebration, a city-sponsored block party held between May and August on the first Wednesday of each month. The free festival, held downtown along Cypress Street, features live music performances, food and drink booths and artisan vendors. The city pulls out all the stops in June for its 2-day Art & Wine Festival in Heather Farm Park, a 102-acre community space in the heart of the city. More than 40,000 people come out each year to enjoy live music performances, art shows and beer and wine tastings. Then, in August, residents can enjoy more low-key events, like concerts at the Broadway Plaza shopping mall downtown, the Moveable Feast: Savor the City food festival and a family mural art walk.
Stores and eateries at Rossmoor Shopping Center
Most dining and shopping options are in Rossmoor Shopping Center, a small commercial plaza on Tice Valley Boulevard with a Safeway grocery store, CVS pharmacy and Wells Fargo Bank. It's also home to several local and chain eateries, including Napa Deli, a family-owned sandwich shop, and Mountain Mike's Pizza, a regional pizza franchise. Residents also have several options for sweet treats, from uniquely flavored baked goods at Crumbl Cookies to classic frozen yogurt at the Yogurt Spot. For additional shopping and dining needs, residents can visit neighboring communities. "It's a few minutes from downtown Walnut Creek but also close to downtown Lafayette, so you can easily get to places like Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and Safeway," says Young, who’s been selling in the area for over 15 years.
Tice Valley has shopping close by with chain stores, as well as some unique restaurants.
