Part of the Manatee County School District, Braden River Middle School covers sixth through eighth grades. Its approximately 1,100 students can take coursework in anything from remedial mathematics to high school honors classes. Braden River Middle School’s mission is to be an innovative community of engaged learners. Faculty and staff “embrace the quest to use new ideas, model respectful behavior and communicate effectively to create dynamic leaders.” Every quarter, the school’s Renaissance Program rewards students who challenge themselves academically and behave respectfully. A STEAM (science, technology engineering, arts and mathematics) curriculum is taught by a teaching group and the students go on academic field trips. Extracurricular activities include the battle of the books club, Kiwanis Builders Club, whose motto is “Building Leaders,” and the technology student association, which participates in competitive events such as biotechnology, video game design and mechanical engineering. Test scores and student progress are both on par with Florida schools’ averages. The school also has an athletic program, as the Braden River Middle School Panthers compete in soccer, basketball, flag football, volleyball and cross country. Braden River Middle School is neighbors with its elementary school counterpart just off a main thoroughfare, and both schools offer bus transportation for the convenience of their students.

The school staff makes a visible effort to try and change the attitudes of students, but it never works. Some o...

This school is the absolute worse that I have ever dealt with. The teachers act like they are the end all be all of the school. They treat the parents as if we are nothing. Some teachers are very rude, disrespectful, and discriminatory against children of color and those with disabilities. And this...

Terrible for special needs kids. They punish instead of help.
