The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

My school has good a good sports team except for football. The school does a good job trying to get people to feel included and also get people educated about different cultures and other topics. Most of the teachers actually care and want you to succeed. The school is kept clean and the janitors try their best to keep the school looking good. I would want more school spirit at my school and having better food options.

La plata is a homely school in Maryland. It works to help students achieve their goals for later in life and loves to showcase student achievements and accomplishments. The school though, is quite old. It was built in the 1960's and seems to have little update since then. The auditorium is low quality, the bathrooms are tacky, one of the water fountains was high in a lead test. It needs some foundational improvements.

La Plata high school is decently successful in academics but has little participation by many students. Along with this it is similar with athletics as to where students don't participate or put in effort but the are decently successful.

Academics: Good core class variety. Some really good teachers, others average. AP offerings are good: Mr Mazzeo is one of the best esp. for first time AP class takers. Mrs. Shnipes, excellent English teacher really motivating and got the kids interested in Shakespeare! Mrs Shoenbauer. A stand out sc...
