Since opening its doors in 1963, Ravensworth Elementary School has welcomed generations of children from the Ravensworth Farms and Burke communities of North Springfield. Today, as Ravensworth commemorates six decades of public education, annual enrollment in the preschool and K-6 programs averages 600 students. Originally housing just 16 classrooms, the building underwent a full renovation in 2016, complete with a 15,000-square-foot addition, modern fixtures, improved technology equipment in each classroom, and upgraded safety features. The updated outside learning space has long been a point of pride: Ravens flock to the discovery gazebo for outdoor lessons, especially in science and art classes, and to tend to the garden plot and butterfly conservancy. Back inside the building, a student-teacher ratio of 16 to 1 helps support the school’s commitment to close collaboration, meaningful discussion, and hands-on trial and error. State test scores suggest that the approach is effective, with 89 percent of students proficient or above in math and 83 percent in reading. Special academic and extracurricular programs abound, including the Spanish-immersion option, available via a lottery for students entering first grade; advanced academic courses to foster talent development via differentiated instruction; online tutoring support; fifth and sixth grade chorus; martial arts lessons; chess club; National Geographic Geography Bee; student council; a student-produced morning news show; and a variety of PTA-supported activities, such as Bingo Night and Family Movie Night. Parents appreciate the welcoming, tight-knit community of the Ravensworth family and its forward-thinking approach to nurturing the next generation of learners. As the mission statement reads, “Our vision at Ravensworth Elementary School identifies that we live in a rapidly changing world, and as educators, we recognize that it is our job to ensure students are holistically prepared for that world.”

This is the worst school my kids have ever attended. Many of the young white woke female teachers seem to have a problem with boys and my son has had to feel it. If this county offered school choice they would be out in a heartbeat. My son is bullied for being special Ed and instead of doing anythin...

School is small, friendly. All staff-related experiences have been positive--from the principal to the teachers to the front desk to the custodians. My child is receiving age appropriate work, and has plenty of "play time", social time, and Mrs. Kim (K) foster creativity and teamwork.

Any school is what you make of it. Children and their families can choose to be involved, attend programs, volunteer, and be active in the school community. There are great teachers, average teachers and bad teachers at any school. We have been very active in all aspects of Ravens life. My children...
