Holy Cross School at San Buenaventura Mission

Private Pre-K, Elementary, Middle School | Grade Pre-K-8
211 E Main St,  Ventura, CA

Holy Cross School at San Buenaventura Mission began as a four-room structure in 1922. A century later, Holy Cross continues to provide a Catholic education to Ventura children — but now to preschoolers through eighth-graders and in a state-of-the-art, three-story facility that overlooks Ventura hillsides with views of the coast. Holy Cross functions as a partnership between parents, the Church, the community and staff. Weekly Mass and religious instruction are an integral part of the educational experience. As a member of the STEM Network of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, the school takes an interdisciplinary approach to help students develop essential skills through hands-on activities and investigations in science, technology, engineering and math. Data-based platforms help teachers develop individualized instruction based on each student’s skills and goals. These platforms include i-Ready in math and STEMscopes, an online science platform that provides hands-on lessons for students. In addition to STEM, the school develops students’ interest in the arts through the school’s ArtTrek program. In this program, parents are trained as volunteer docents to provide art instruction throughout the grade levels. The goal of Holy Cross is to develop students who appreciate their faith and can apply science, technology, engineering and math skills for future education and careers. Just steps from the historic Mission San Buenaventura, Holy Cross provides students with a 21st-century educational experience within a close-knit, nurturing community.

I am so grateful for this school. I transferred my child from a public elementary school that was plagued with fights, bullying, unresponsive teachers, and even drugs! Holy Cross is a great school where I feel my child can be safe and be around like minded families who care about community. The STEM...

This school has had an ongoing problem of low enrollment, a high turnover of admin for very good reasons.

I used to be a student here from pre-K up until sixth grade. I enjoyed all my years here. Despite not being Catholic myself the community was very welcoming and mass was a nice space spent around teachers and friends. The teachers were nice and some have left a lasting impact on me. The school is qu...

The current principal is cold and has no regard for anyone within the "family". She often does not even respond to parents or students. The website offers false promises abo...
