The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

My experience with at Gar-Field High School has been predominately positive with nice staff and very helpful teachers.

Growing up all I ever heard about Gar-Field was that it was a bad and dirty school. So knowing this when it was time for me to apply to the high school I wanted to go to, I decided to go to the school that everyone was saying was a good school. At the time my grades were not amazing. I kept missing honor roll by a "C" or two. They didn't accept my application so I had to go to Gar-Field. In my head I was about to have the most miserable years of my life. Well I soon found out that I was very wrong and that all those stories growing up were too. I would actually say that these past four years were the greatest of my life so far. Mostly due to the people I've met at Gar-Field. The teachers were great and actually treated the students with respect. I've met a lot of my closest friends at Gar-Field. It turned out that the school I was originally trying to go to always had fights and the teachers were mean. Gar-Field did have bugs but I still don't regret going.

The teachers at this school truly care to help students. Students come mostly from low income households and teachers work with them to instill a different mindset - I think this school could be a lot more productive if there was a parent/teacher/admon alliance. Schools face extremely diverse studen...
