An small urban enclave just outside of Church Hill

Modest single-story dwellings sit side-by-side along narrow streets lined with sidewalks and mature trees in Richmond’s Peter Paul, a small urban enclave of just over 530 residents. The community is strictly residential, but locals often refer to it as "an extended part of Church Hill," or so says Erin Rose, a Realtor at Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc. Church Hill is one of Richmond's most sought-after neighborhoods, because of its walkability and density of trendy shops and eateries. "It's probably one of the more walkable neighborhoods in the city, besides the Museum District and the Fan," she says. And while, Peter Paul is technically about 1 mile from Church Hill proper, access to all it has to offer is well within reach.

Homebuyers can find older two-bedroom cottages for $140,000 or remodeled four-bedroom dwellings for $370,000. Homes here move "a little slower" than in other Church Hill communities, but Rose, who's lived in Church Hill for 12 years and has been selling homes in the area for four years, says it can "vary from house to house or street to street." The median home price in Peter Paul is around $191,000, well below Richmond's average price of $350,000.

Weekend-long Church Hill Irish Festival

Aziz's Autism Awareness Talent Show is Peter Paul's flagship community event. It was started by a local family in 2017 to educate more people about the disorder by showcasing the talent of community members living with autism. It's held annually on World Autism Day in the Peter Paul Development Center. The weekend-long Church Hill Irish Festival is a major annual event taking place nearby. The city shuts down a section of 25th and E. Broad Streets so vendors, musicians and hundreds of revelers can celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

The neighborhood has historically had high crime rates, receiving a score of 8 out of 10 per the CAP Index, but community initiatives through the Peter Paul Development Center are working to combat violence in the area by supporting families and creating safe spaces for kids.
