Suburban Neighborhood in Maryland
Prince George's County 20706, 20774
About 15 miles from Washington, D.C., Springdale is a community of convenience. “It offers accessibility to the Capital Beltway, which gets you close to D.C.,” says Monica Bryant, a local real estate agent with Century 21. “So if you are commuting, which a lot of people in this area do commute to D.C. or Baltimore or Annapolis, it’s right there centrally located to hit all those major hubs that people may have to go to.”
Houses in the neighborhood are primarily single-family homes, with some newer town house developments. Homes typically range from the low $300,000s to the mid $600,000s depending on square footage and condition and include styles such as split-levels, colonials, and ranchers; homes on the higher end of the price range typically have two-car garages. Ardwick Ardmore Road is the main thoroughfare, dividing the neighborhood roughly into two halves: Springdale to the north, and Ardmore to the south; though they are usually referred to as a whole. The neighborhood is unincorporated, providing some benefits and drawbacks homebuyers will want to consider.
Students in the neighborhood attend Prince George's County Public Schools like Ardmore Elementary School, Ernest Everett Just Middle School, and Charles Herbert Flowers High School. Charles Herbert Flowers High’s namesake was a primary flight instructor of the Tuskegee Airmen during WWII, and later in life he worked with the community’s youth in programs like Youth in Aviation. Today, the school offers an Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp (ROTC) program to continue his legacy and offer students special educational and leadership opportunities.
All your needs are close at hand in this community. “It’s near some major shopping like the Woodmore Town Centre, which has been built up with ample shopping and dining. The location is ideal for people who are looking for the convenience of having a major shopping experience,” Bryant says, noting the shopping center’s anchor stores like Wegmans and Costco. “There’s even a new children’s hospital built in the Woodmore Town Centre. It offers a lot.” Residents will head here regularly, whether it be for brunch at Milk and Honey (the shrimp and grits are award-winning), bento boxes for lunch at Quickway Japanese Hibachi, or an order of South African grilled peri-peri chicken at Nando’s.
Once or twice a year, residents get out and see their neighbors at Ardmore Springdale Community Day, which typically features food, entertainment, activities for kids, a job fair, and even health screenings. On the weekends, kids have their birthday parties at Ardmore Park, which features a building community members can rent, picnic tables with grills, a small playground, athletic fields, and basketball courts. About eight miles away is Greenbelt Park, an urban forest maintained by the National Park Service, giving residents a peaceful escape just 15 minutes away where they can hike or even pitch a tent and spend the night.
Although, with easy access to major highways, plus train options that include the New Carrollton MARC and Metrorail station, having fun close to home is barely just the half of it.
